The journey is the reward???

April 24, 2012

Sometimes the weather, the scenery and the people combine to make really memorable travel experiences. Some days I just have to shake my head to remember where I am and what I am doing!

Yesterday, I went to Miyajima with Andrew, english bloke from the hostel here in Hiroshima, and we had a stellar day. The weather was perfect – we took a ferry to the island – hiked around – then had phenomenal oysters direct from the sea, grilled right there in front of the restaurant.

We earned lunch – beauty and perfection exacts a price. We hiked for about 1 and 1/2 hours – up rock stairs the whole time, to the peak of Mount Misen. It was 3km…UP. Seriously a challenge but one I am so glad I did – but was even happier when it was over.

Off to see the reason Hiroshima is famous today – I have heard the museum and peace memorial are both really great.
