Good Morning Vietnam!!!

March 25, 2012

Yes, I know the headline is lame and obvious. Once I settle in, I am sure I will be able to think up titles that are more clever.

What a wild place this is, and we only crossed the border about 16 hours ago.

I rode a boat
I rode a bike
I ate a rat
I ate a bat

The photo of the food is a plate of deep fried seasoned rat. Sky is holding a deep fried bat in his hands. Both rat and bat taste pretty good. With lots of seasoning, guess what they taste like!

Actually the bat tasted like liver.

After our boat ride down the Mekong River, we took cyclos for a city tour around Chau Doc. Quite something – 13 of us, each on a person-powered bicycle, racing through the alleys of this small town. We had snacks and beer with the drivers, yes, that’s where the exotic meat came from.

The title may be well used, but I liked the homage to Dr. Seuss! Oh, the places you’re going…

Sushi is going to seem awfully tame when you get back to these parts — we’ll have to see if we can at least find you a live octopus to eat or something.

So proud of your adventures in food. You’ve come a long way Mel!
